Theology and Pop Culture: When They See Us

The G'Life Social Justice and Public Advocacy Institute along with the Center for Social Justice and Healing, a community of research scholars at the University of Memphis are hosting a viewing of Ava Du Vernay's series "When They See Us." The series focuses on the lives of Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray, Yusef Salaam, Korey Wise, and Raymond Santana who New York City prosecutors falsely convicted of rape in the 1989 Central Park Jogger case. They will show the film in four-part on consecutive Wednesday nights starting July 10 and ending July 31, 2019. Dinner starts at 5:30pm and the viewing starts at 6pm. After the viewing, a discussion will follow. This is a free event and opened to the public.

Frayser Frustration: Part 1

On Wednesday, June 12, 2019, U.S. marshalls shot and killed Brandon Webber in Memphis, Tennessee in the Frayser community. Later that night, community members took to the streets to share their frustrations of the killing of Webber. Our host Rev. Dr. Andre E. Johnson was on the ground that night and he recorded this footage.
